I geuss i should say what the material i worked with is. This is made from cheap travel sewing thread and banana peels. I let the banana peels dry out or i placed them in the oven so they would lose color faster ( considering i was working under a time frame for a Pepper class). This past year, which i geuss started in the summer, i have become intensely interested in sewing. This piece was obviously hand sewn, but i have also been teaching my self how to use a sewing machine. The minute i a got the sewing machine, i thought "Yes, I can create so much more because time is not so imperative like hand sewing." No, i was wrong, it just ment my mind would just wonder into more complex idea's which i have to cramp into short time periods for due dates controlled by a thing called class.
When i think of sewing, i think of clean, crisp folds and lines. Having everything in order and having unseen ties hold it all together. Also, with those same ties, create a an icon on the surface being held.
However, when i think of myself sewing, i think of chaos, looseness, and everything off place. I think i want to explore that more, creating a texture through the "now seen" ties holding it all together. I rather see my process and appreciate the piece as a whole, rather then hide the process and appreciate the piece without the unseen.
So i am really excited.
